“Managing projects is difficult under the best of circumstances. The Project Manager must balance competing Stakeholder interests against the constraints of limited Resources and Time, ever-changing Technologies, and unachievable demands from unreasonable people.

Project Management is People Management, Technology Management, Business Management, Risk Management, and Expectation Management.  It's a juggling act, with many balls up in the air all at once.

Unfortunately, most Project Managers receive little training in the art of how to do their jobs.  Anyone can learn to draw a Gantt chart, but effective project managers rely on the savvy that comes from painful experience!  Coaching and Survival Tips from people, who have already done their Tour of Duty in the trenches, can save you from learning such lessons the hard way.” – an extract from Project Management Success Tips by Karl Wiegers Ph.D

Whether you've been suddenly thrust into the role of project manager, or are a seasoned professional with years of hands-on experience in the trenches, we could all do with some keys to helping increase the likelihood of Project Success.

Ensuring success can be a daunting task, and as a fellow Project Manager I can assure you I understand and share your pain.  I am sure I am not the only one who has spent a fair share of restless nights tossing and turning, wondering what I could do differently or what trick I can apply to turn things around.  What happened with those Lessons’ Learned sessions and Risk Mitigation Strategies that we talked about and planned to consider this time around?  I thought that Change Control Process and regular Stakeholder Meeting that we implemented would solve all our woes, where did we go wrong?  What do you mean the project is off track and that key deliverable will be late!

In this session, Steve Morgan PMP will be discussing the “9 Secret (or not so secret) Keys to Managing Projects Successfully.”  These secrets may seem obvious to the basis of Project Management; that is until you forget one and feel the pain!

During the interactive session we will examine some of those project management steps that might be easy to forget or de-scope based on the assumption that "We've done this sort of project before, right?", but that are critical to project success and managing optimal results.

Steve will introduce the “Project Intensiometer", a tool that helps you calculate project intensity and scale Project Planning effort accordingly.

There will be lots of opportunity for conversation and you will be given the chance to provide input relating to your own experience scaling Project Processes based on intensity.  So come prepared to offer your insights, past successes/failures and horror stories.
